In the story of Jenna and Alice, “LEAVING Time”, Jodi Picoult explains how elephants develop their ability to remember, as the result of an extra large hippocampus. Elephants are thought to possess excellent long-term spatial-temporal and social memory, both memory types being at least in part hippocampus dependent. Demis Hassabis, the gamer who understood something of how the hippocampus functions, explains to us that, when you sleep, your hippocampus replays the memory of the day back to your cortex. Thoughts and experiences become behaviour. The building blocks for successful people start from what they focus on in life. It’s a basic spiritual principle:
“what you sow is what you reap”
The biggest challenge at IALA is to put building blocks in place in order for young adults to believe in themselves and their future. Lifestyle, personal discipline and eating habits are just some of the most basic aspects we focus on in our program. The challenge is for young adults to understand the impact of bad habits on their future successes and/ or failures.
